THE ICKY JONES DIARIES
Icky Jones is a different kind of hero. He is not particularly big, strong nor talented. In fact, he is a stuttering, geeky-looking asthmatic. However, Icky, possessed of his own brand of yucky power, can be counted on to save the day. In the process, he elicits laughter and squeals of subversive delight.
The Icky Jones Diaries chronicles the adventures and misadventures of Icky and his cohort of very abnormal fifth graders in Normal, Illinois. A chapter book of hysterical stand-alone short stories, the book follows the fifth grade class of Normal through a wild, unimaginable, event-filled school year.
Ickys special power, indeed the reason for his name, comes from the fact that when he is nervous or afraid (which is often), he ejects a rather dangerous substance from his nose. It isnt pretty and his friends work feverishly to make sure that never happens. But Icky is not the only one with awkward problems. His girlfriend, Pym Pull, whenever she gets upset, tends to break out in zits filled with lethal pus. Newt Jersey, the class bully, has troublesome anger management issues. Ms. Annabelle Sweet-tooth, Ickys favorite teacher, has breasts so large that the kids live in fear of being hugged and suffocated. Then there is Coach Boondoggle who, by sheer luck of scheduling and parental interference, finds himself and his team in a game way over their head.
Icky Jones will appeal to and stimulate wild imaginations as he battles King Kong, space aliens, ghosts, motorcycle gangs, sharks, pirates and more. The Icky Jones Diaries will have kids turning pages and reward their love of reading. It encourages laughter, overcoming the odds, standing up to bullies and finding the power that is in oneself.
